An edited version of this will be published in The Wissett Web but here is a letter from our new landlords:
Hello neighbours and new friends,
We wanted to write this open letter and invitation to all who receive this newsletter, so that we can tell you a little about us, our plans and vision for The Plough and, perhaps more importantly, to invite you all to our Opening Drinks at 18.30pm on Friday 1st February. You are all welcome!
Alain and I have lived in Suffolk (Reydon and Benacre) for 10 years or so. We moved up from Essex. I’m originally from London and Alain is French. Suffolk has become our forever home and we have come to love this beautiful county.
Until very recently, we both worked in London and commuted each day. Alain was in Chef recruitment. His career in catering began at 17 when he undertook his chef training with the Roux Brothers and spent several years working in their restaurants. He then moved to contract catering for large B&I catering suppliers and was General Manager for multiple contracts before he focussed on recruitment.
I worked for the UK’s leading business school where I was responsible for 300 staff across multiple front of house service teams, including catering, hotel services, property developments and looking after a Grade 1 estate. This followed 15 years of major event management for global business leaders, politicians, Heads of State and royalty both in the UK and overseas
So we have, between us, considerable experience in the catering / hospitality and service sector, giving us plenty of transferable skills to prepare us for this next chapter in our lives – running the pub!
We are enormously excited about this venture. We have already come to love the pub and we are encouraged and thrilled by the obvious support that there is in the village and surrounding areas for its continued success. We want the pub to be the heart of the village, where you are all welcome to come for a pint, coffee and cake, lunch or dinner. We want your input and suggestions, we would love to hear your feedback, we hope that you will use the pub as a family space, as somewhere to meet up with friends or by yourself for a little quiet time with the newspapers and your favourite tipple!
Our new menus are being finalised and will be posted on the pub website in a few days. As much as possible, we will use fresh Suffolk produce. Provenance is important to us and supporting local suppliers is essential. If there isn’t something on the menu that you want to try, let us know and we will see what we can do. If you want to come and eat but have allergies or dietary requirements, we will always try to accommodate you.
Moving forward, the pub will be open from 11am Tuesday through to Sunday. Following our Opening drinks, we will properly open for business on Saturday 2nd February. Weekend newspapers will be available, books will be there to be read or borrowed or swapped and traditional pub board games will be yours to use.
Well behaved dogs on leads will be welcome every day but not during the evening. We have two lovely sharpei dogs, Harry and Vinnie. You may meet them on their walks but they won’t be in the bar.
Please do come to our welcome drinks on Friday 1st. We look forward to meeting our new neighbours.

There will be new Publicans in the Plough in February.
From last nights Facebook Page “Plough On” – more news as we get it.
Good Evening Ploughers.
Today we met Toni and Alain who are hoping to take over the lease on The Plough at the end of the month. They are keen to get to know the community and plan to host a welcome night on Friday 1st of February, reopening properly on the 2nd.
They have asked that we introduce them to you on here as there are many rumours flying around about the future of the pub.
We will keep you updated as everything becomes official but for now rest assured that the pub will be open soon and that the new Landlady and landlord are excited to meet you all. Plough On
If you go onto the Wissett Plough Facebook Page (https://www.facebook.com/thewissettplough/) you can see two of the new inhabitants of the Plough!
The Plough in Wissett is the heart of the village and rural country life. Providing great friendly customer service, a pub that is Free of Tie and servers premium drinks and traditional cask ales along with quality food freshly cooked by our award winning chef.
There is a lovely outside garden area with picturesque views and plenty of customer parking.
The Wissett Plough is located two miles from vibrant Halesworth and only seven miles from the stunning coastal resort of Southwold.
The pub is a dog friendly pub for all well behaved canines and their owners. That said during busy evening dining periods and Sunday’s we won’t be able to allow them inside sorry. Please don’t be offended, the owners love doggies and have two of our own. We are sure you will see them around the pub. They are Jack Russel sisters named Meg & Peg and are very friendly.
